Annual Conference March 26-28 2015

In the conclusion of an interview, the French philosopher Michel Foucault once pointed to the necessity of dreams and reflected on the dangers presented when “dreams dry up.” The 2015 Annual Meeting of the Society for the Anthropology of Consciousness will discuss the current “state of dreaming.” We will investigate, explore, discuss, and celebrate the state of dreaming on individual and collective levels. We would also like to engage with the ideas of dreaming as a vital tool of survival and as a radical act for the transformation of consciousness. The Society for the Anthropology of Consciousness
welcomes paper and panel proposals for its March 26-28, 2015 meeting in Portland, Oregon. We encourage submission of interdisciplinary and collaborative works. Topics may include, but are not limited to:
o Art and creativity
o Dreams and indigenous ways of knowing
o Dreams as a tool for survival
o Ethnic, national, and political consciousness
o As a psychospiritual practice
o Narratives and storytelling
o Social transformation and change
o Dreams and the transpersonal
o Liminality and in-betweenness
o Cross-cultural perspectives of dreaming
o Entheogens and psychoactive substances
Instructions:
Proposals for individual papers, panels, workshops and special events should be submitted by
January 3, 2015.
Pre-registration fees should be paid to AAA before submitting abstracts.
If your paper is not accepted, you may request a refund of your registration fees.
Submissions will not be accepted unless the author has already completed the registration process. Papers that belong to sessions must be submitted individually. Authors must register and pay before deadline.
Visual artists submitting pieces should submit an artistic statement and picture of proposed piece under the “Individual Paper” form. This may include in-progress images or finished works. Work must be completed within the past five years by the applicant as an individual or in a collaborative. Artists will be given an opportunity to interface with scholars and discuss their work’s overlap with academic disciplines. The format of this presentation is dependent on total number of pieces selected. Artists will be asked to display work throughout conference, beginning March 26.
Limit: one paper or presentation per person, unless prior approval has been obtained from the
Program Chair. Session organizers may submit individual papers for inclusion in their sessions.
Please indicate whether you will require audiovisual equipment for your presentation on the
“Finish” form. A projector and screen can be made available if needed. Participants must
provide their own laptops and appropriate connector cables.

NOTE: Please be prepared to PRESENT your paper topic! You may make a hard copy of your paper available to others, but please avoid reading it as your presentation.
