The history of what is now called Society for the Anthropology of Consciousness is an evolving response to the epistemological and political shifts both within the discipline of anthropology itself and, to a larger extent, the various cultural conditions that have shaped the structures of identity and power for millennia.
Any organization must constantly grapple with connecting its heritage to its aspirations and actual performance. We therefore look to our history as a guide for how to more deeply situate and align our purpose within the ever-shifting dynamics of our disciplines, practices, and diverse lifeworlds.
